I respectfully acknowledge my presence as an uninvited settler on Treaty 1 territory; the traditional territories of the Anishinaabeg, Ininiwak, Nehethowuk, Anisininew, Dakota Oyate, and Denesuline peoples, and the homeland of the Métis nation. I am grateful to the land, the original Indigenous stewards of this land, and the water that nourishes all forms of life from Iskatewi-zaaga'iganiing 40 (Shoal Lake 40 First Nation on Treaty 3 territory). As a white settler clinician rooted in anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and anti-colonial paradigms, I support Indigenous sovereignty and am committed to utilizing my educational and racial privilege to confront white supremacy and move in solidarity with Indigenous communities towards implementing the Truth Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action and the National Inquiry into Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls’ 231 Calls for Justice; particularly regarding the wellbeing of Indigenous women and Two Spirit folks engaging in sex work, who are often treated as disposable, are disproportionately murdered, and go missing on Turtle Island and beyond.
