Land Acknowledgement
I respectfully acknowledge my presence as an uninvited settler on Treaty 1 territory; the traditional territories of the Anishinaabeg, Ininew, Anisininew, Očhéthi Šakówiŋ, and Dene peoples, and the homeland of the Métis nation. I am grateful to the land, the original Indigenous caretakers of this land (recognized and unrecognized), and the water we use to nourish all forms of life sourced from Iskatewi-zaaga'iganiing 40 (Shoal Lake 40 First Nation on Treaty 3 territory).
As a white settler clinician firmly rooted in anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and anti-colonial paradigms, I support Indigenous sovereignty and am committed to utilizing my educational and racial privilege to confront white supremacy and move in solidarity with Indigenous communities towards implementing the Truth Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action and the National Inquiry into Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls’ 231 Calls for Justice; particularly with regards to the health and wellbeing of Indigenous 2SLGBTQIA+ community members and the safety & security of Indigenous women, girls, and Two Spirit folks engaging in sex work, who are often viewed and treated as disposable and are disproportionately murdered and/or go missing on Turtle Island and beyond.
